Woman fights for her life after being hit by a car in busy McDonald’s driveway

A woman is fighting for her life after she was hit by a car near a McDonald’s driveway.

The 64-year-old was hit at the fast food restaurant in Byker, Newcastle, just before 8.50pm on Friday.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

However, he has since been released pending further investigation.

The police are now asking witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Michael Parnaby said: “This is a very serious collision which has left a woman in hospital in a critical condition.”

“A number of inquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened leading up to the collision and to establish the full circumstances.

“We know there was a lot of traffic with lots of people and vehicles in the area at the time – so there will be more witnesses who saw what happened. Please help us by contacting the police as soon as possible.”

“Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could prove crucial in the early stages of our investigation.”
