Wappingers Falls explosion: Gas line strike triggers spark explosion, fire in Dutchess County

WAPPINGERS FALLS, New York (WABC) — More than a dozen people were injured when a gas line was damaged in Wappingers Falls Thursday afternoon, triggering an explosion that destroyed a home.
A Central Hudson spokesman said a contractor hit a 3/4-inch gas service line and the excavation caused a fire and explosion at 4 Brick Row around 12:15 p.m
At 1:30 p.m., the company cut off electricity and natural gas supplies in the immediate area
According to authorities, ten civilians and five first responders were injured.
The civilians include eight adults and two children, while the first responders include a firefighter and four police officers.
The first responders’ injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Gov. Kathy Hochul released a statement saying she had deployed state emergency medical services personnel to help with the response.
“As the situation continues to evolve, I urge all New Yorkers to follow the guidance of law enforcement and other first responders who are committed to keeping the community safe,” Hochul said. “I join all New Yorkers in praying for the village of Wappingers Falls.”
