The MCU version of the Illuminati comes to life in stunning new fan art

Summary

  • The most worthy member of Earth-616’s Illuminati is the Scarlet Witch due to her incredible power as shown in Avengers: Endgame And Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
  • The inclusion of the Hulk who appeared in Thor: Ragnarok is problematic due to his perceived lack of intelligence and cowardice Avengers: Infinity War.
  • Thor, Doctor Strange and Professor

The Illuminati is getting the upgrade the superhero organization so desperately deserves. The team assembled by Stephen Strange of Earth-838 first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But in a stunning piece of brand new fan art, the Illuminati are being reimagined for the MCU’s Earth-616. Check out Instagram user @agtdesign’s post below:

The most worthy member of Earth-616’s Illuminati is Wanda Maximoff’s alter ego, the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Whether MCU fans were happy with Wanda’s portrayal Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessshe is clearly one of the most powerful of all the Avengers, if not the most powerful.

During the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessOlsen’s Scarlet Witch encountered Earth-838’s Illuminati members Mister Fantastic (John Krasinski), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart). And the Scarlet Witch murders every single one of them without apologizing. Not to mention how she dealt with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Avengers: Endgamejustifies Scarlet Witch’s inclusion in Earth-616’s Illuminati.

Clearly, that one avenger Scarlet Witch (Olsen) deserves to be in the MCU’s Earth-616 version of the Illuminati, and almost certainly its leader. And the rest of the team is rounded out in fan art by the Sorcerer Supreme Wong (Benedict Wong), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Fans of the MCU will probably want Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to take Wong’s place on the team from the start. Now it’s time to deal with the bright green elephant in the room.

The fan art uses an image of Hulk Thor: Ragnarok as a member of the Illuminati. The problems with having this version of Bruce Banner’s alter ego in the group start with him not being as intelligent as Professor/Smart Hulk (Avengers: Endgame). Yes, you can argue that Ragnarok Version is more powerful than any other in the MCU, but Hulk still couldn’t defeat Thanos (Brolin) while the villain was wielding the Power Stone Avengers: Infinity War. What’s worse is that Hulk turned into an absolute coward who didn’t even want to face Thanos in the end Infinity War. This alone would cost him a spot in the Illuminati. If there is a Hulk in the superhero group, it would have to be a different version. The most obvious options would be the Breaker of Worlds or the Immortal Hulk, but they don’t exist in the MCU yet.

Captain Marvel absolutely has the power to be a part of the Illuminati. But which other Avengers from the MCU’s Earth-616 should be considered as members? Apparently Earth-838 had more superheroes in their group – not that it would have helped them in the fight against the Scarlet Witch. But who else should join in with this stunning fan art? Certainly Thor (Chris Hemsworth) deserves a shot, as does Doctor Strange. And that X Men officially join the MCU. So how about giving Professor X from Earth-616 another try? You know, as long as Marvel promises not to kill the legendary Charles Xavier on the big screen a fourth time!

The latest installment of the MCU, The wondershits theaters on Friday, November 10th.
