Kody Brown expressed mixed feelings about his relationship Janelle Brown during the final episode of Sister wives.
“I once asked Janelle, ‘What is that? Why can’t we reconcile? Let’s try to reconcile. Why can’t we?'” he said in a confessional on Sunday, November 5, after visiting Janelle’s new apartment. “[She says]”Well, I don’t know what your relationship is with Robyn and Meri, but I’m just not interested in working with those people.” And that’s sad. Because that’s the agreement we made about plural marriage.”
Tensions between Kody and Janelle, both 54, were high throughout season 18 after the couple had a heated argument. They accused each other of “gaslighting” during their screaming match that aired in September, and their status remained up in the air on camera.
Kody admitted on Sunday that it was “sad” to see his marriage to Janelle “disintegrate” over time. “I can’t put the pieces of the puzzle back together,” he said. “But I’ll ask her again next week if maybe we can reconcile. And it’s painful every time. Maybe I should take it more seriously, but every time it’s like, ‘Nope.'”
In her own interview, Janelle admitted that she wasn’t all that interested in building a “relationship” with her fellow sisters Meri Brown And Robyn Brown. (Kody’s third wife, Christine Brownleft the family at the end of 2021.)
“It feels like he’s trying to excuse his behavior,” Janelle said of Kody, who expected her to get along with Meri, 52, and Robyn, 45. “Why would I want to be with you again?” It’s your fault. You’ll be a bad sister wife. I have to protect Robyn.’ Because he has no relationship with Meri.”
According to Janelle, Kody hadn’t made it clear that he wanted to repair their marriage. “He never came to me and said, ‘Hey, I love you.’ I miss you. “I want to get back together,” she claimed. “It’s always about, ‘Don’t you want to get the family back together’ so his life can run smoothly again?” And I’m really done with that.”
Janelle joined Kody’s plural family in 1993, three years after he tied the knot with Meri. Christine entered into a spiritual relationship with Kody in 1994, and Robyn followed in 2010. Kody caused a stir in the family dynamic in 2014 when he decided to legally divorce Meri and become Robyn’s legal husband in order to welcome her children from a previous marriage to adopt. (Kody is the father of 18 children from his four spouses.)
While Kody and Meri initially remained in their spiritual connection, they confirmed earlier this year that they had ended it. Janelle, for her part, announced in December 2022 that she and Kody had been “separated for months.”
Kody opened up about his dysfunctional family in an exclusive interview with Us weekly Last month, he shared an update with Janelle about where he is post-split.
“I can talk to Janelle all the time and say, ‘Hey, what should we do?’ Are we going to reconcile this?’ And she doesn’t sound like she’s interested in a reconciliation,” Kody said Us. “I mean, time changes things, and if you move forward with grace and forgiveness, you might find love in the end… even if you don’t stay in the marriage.”
Sister wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
