Jumps back to fourth center after injuries to Connor McGovern and Wes Schweitzer

If it wasn’t against NFL rules, the Jets might have held halftime tryouts for a center.
Fourth player Xavier Newman, a guard who was called up from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Giants, took over midway through the second quarter when injuries devastated the depth chart.
As expected, the first exchange between Newman and quarterback Zach Wilson ended in a fumble that the Giants recovered. The Giants were unable to convert the takeaway into points as their offense was in a tough spot with third-string rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito making his NFL debut.
After starting center Connor McGovern left the game with a knee injury, Wes Schweitzer slid from left guard and grabbed the ball.
But Schweitzer didn’t last long before suffering a calf injury.

The Jets began the game without Joe Tippman, who serves as left guard and backup center.
Newman came into the game with 16 career offensive snaps played for the Titans last season and earlier this season.
