Who is Lando Norris?

Lando Norris was born on November 13, 1999 in Bristol, England.

At the Australian Grand Prix in 2021, he set a brilliant fastest lap on the final lap and was nicknamed “Last Lap Lando”.

His first real year of karting at club level was 2008 and in 2009 he took pole position at his first national event – to this day he is still the youngest driver to ever take pole position at a national meet.

For the 2010 season, Lando competed in the two major national championships in the cadet class, competing against riders up to three years his senior. There he finished third overall in the Super One Series and won the coveted “O” plate during the season.

In 2012, the 12-year-old was crowned champion of the Formula Kart Stars series and runner-up in the MSA Super One British Championship.

Lando competed in the WSK Euro Series, Winter Cup, Rotax Super One and Euro Max in 2013 and showed his class by becoming CIK-FIA European KFJ Champion, WSK Euro Series KFJ Champion and CIK-FIA KFJ Super Cup Champion .

Norris was also runner-up in the WSK Master Series and took fourth place in the World Championship.

In 2014, Lando moved up to the KF, the premier category in senior karting, and finished third overall in the championship – an impressive performance against older and more experienced drivers – where the 14-year-old made history by becoming the youngest CIK FIA KF world champion of all time became championship winner.

In 2015 he scored an impressive eight wins this season and was crowned FIA Formula 4 Great Britain Champion.

2016 was Lando’s most successful year to date as he won three championship crowns, the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver award and the British Racing Driver of the Year award.

The McLaren Young driver continued his meteoric rise through the motorsport ranks, becoming the youngest FIA Formula 3 European Champion in history in 2017 – and in November of that year he became the official McLaren Formula 1 test and reserve driver appointed for 2018.

Lando completed a full season in Formula 2 in 2018, winning the opening race in Bahrain and scoring a further eight podiums over the course of the season, making him runner-up.

He was announced in September 2018 as a driver for McLaren in the 2019 F1 World Championship alongside Carlos Sainz Jr., finishing his debut season in 11th place with 49 points.

Lando stayed with McLaren for his second year in Formula 1 and finished ninth in the drivers’ standings with 97 points. In doing so, he helped his team to third place in the 2020 constructors’ championship, the team’s best result since 2012.

In 2021, he finished on the podium at Imola, Monaco, Austria and Monza, finished sixth in the Drivers’ Championship – his second place in Monza helped McLaren to their only one-two of the season – and signed a new contract with McLaren until 2025.

2022 brought a new era of Formula 1 with the introduction of all-new cars, with Lando finishing seventh with 122 points.
