The news was announced by his latest team, the Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) based in the UK. The team’s statement, released on Sunday, October 29, said: “Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a horrific accident during last night’s game in Sheffield is.”

The Panthers’ heartbreaking statement highlighted the gravity of the loss of not only an outstanding player, but also a valued teammate and individual. “Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person who had his whole life ahead of him. The club will miss him dearly and never forget him.”

The Pittsburgh Penguins, where Johnson previously played, expressed their condolences and memories. “The Pittsburgh Penguins join the entire hockey world in mourning the loss of Adam Johnson, whose life ended tragically far too soon,” they said, adding, “Adam will always be a part of the Penguins family.” It was an honor see him fulfill his dream of playing in the National Hockey League.”

With the hockey community deeply shocked by Johnson’s death, the EIHL decided to postpone all games scheduled for Sunday, October 29th. Her statement reminded everyone of the importance of supporting each other in such difficult times: “Many of us will find Saturday’s events very disturbing. Please take care of yourself and each other.”

Adam Johnson was from Grand Rapids, Minnesota. His professional hockey career began in college when he played for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. His passion and skill for the sport quickly became apparent when he moved to the American Hockey League in 2017 and made his notable NHL debut just a year later.
