Drivers are violating little-known road rules in the battle for the best parking spot – but who’s REALLY to blame?

An “idiotic” driver who thought he had found a great parking space has been harshly criticized by fellow drivers for breaking a traffic law.

The shameless red Volkswagen was parked incorrectly, posing a safety risk and leaving other drivers stranded trying to overtake.

An outraged passer-by who witnessed the illegal move shared a shocking clip on social media.

In one Video Uploaded to TikTok, he captioned the post: “Some idiot driver parked his red car on the wrong side of the road and other drivers are having trouble getting through.”

Unsigned on-street parking laws can be confusing, but ignoring them can result in drivers being hit with a hefty fine.

The road traffic regulations state: “Cars must be parked facing the direction of travel at night if they are not in a marked parking bay.”

Drivers even face a hefty fine of £1,000 if they are caught parking illegally.

For cars with more than eight seats it could even rise to £2,500.

The red car, not in a marked bay, faces the direction of incoming traffic on the narrow one-way street.

While the driver can park there – even if it is tight – the car should face the other direction.

Some people in the comments on the video disagreed that parking was an issue.

One wrote: “There’s enough room to get through if you drive yourself properly.”

Another agreed: “Seems like there’s enough space to me.”

It’s not the first time a driver has misunderstood parking regulations.

A driver was handed a “ridiculous” £200 fine for parking his car on a thoroughfare.

The motorist from Sydney, Australia was fined for parking less than ten meters from an intersection.

Mr. Tank, who had only been living there for five days, insisted news.com.au that he had never heard of the rule and that there were always other cars on the spot.

And he called the penalty “absurd,” adding that “any reasonable person” would think the spot was a legal parking lot.
