Daredevil: Born Again is getting a showrunner
TV
Marvel is getting the Man Without Fear back on track. An exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Marvel has found a showrunner after firing Chris Ord and Matt Corman (so to speak; they’re now executive producers, which is a nice way to sideline them) and committing to recasting the show Daredevil: Reborn: Dario Scardapane. Scarpane has some experience with Marvel shows, having been the showrunner for the first season of the Netflix series The punisherwhich was a spin-off of Daredevil; he also worked on the Amazon series Jack Ryan by Tom Clancy. Marvel has also hired Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead to direct the remaining episodes; The team has previously directed episodes of Loki And Moon Knight. The ongoing strike by actors has brought filming to a halt Daredevil: Reborn in limbo, but after deciding to make major changes to the show, Marvel is getting its ducks in a row so they can resume production as quickly as possible.
Well, that’s… better, I guess. I’m not a big fan of The punisher or Jack Ryan (To be fair, I only saw the latter in the first season, and that was before Scardapane came on board), but these shows have a more serious tone than Covert Affairs, the series by Ord and Corman. I don’t understand why they didn’t at least try to get one of these Daredevil Showrunners are returning, but at least Scardapane feels like a step in the right direction. I’m less enthusiastic about Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead; Once again, Marvel is hiring internal people from projects that weren’t that good. But on a television show, directors don’t have much influence over the story; That’s what a showrunner is for, and Marvel avoiding them may be a big reason why their shows have mostly done poorly so far. This change seems like weak sauce to me; I was hoping to hear something exciting and encouraging, but mostly it’s worth little more than a shrug.
