At the start of the game, Gunners fans could be heard shouting: “Declan Rice, he left because you suck.”

However, it didn’t take long for visitors to do so.

Ben White’s headed own goal after 16 minutes marked the start of a disappointing evening for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Mohammed Kudus’ deft touch on the ball after a long pass down the field gave him a meter of space in the penalty area before making it second for the Irons.

Rice came on as a substitute in the 57th minute to force the game in his new team’s favor.

But just three minutes later, Jarrod Bowen scored a brilliant third goal with the help of a deflection.

Martin Odegaard’s 97th-minute goal was merely a consolation for the North Londonders.

West Ham fans responded to Arsenal’s earlier taunts with a Rice song of their own.

She was heard shouting: “Are you looking at Declan Rice?”

West Ham manager David Moyes had asked the home crowd not to boo their former star.

But many fans ignored this appeal with ridicule as he entered the field.

However, there was also some applause from the home team.

Rice played 245 games for West Ham and went on to captain the club, winning the Europa Conference League in his final game with them last season.

But Arsenal will look to return the favor when they host West Ham on December 28.

The second leg is then planned for the weekend of February 10th.

West Ham faced Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup this evening.
