A 20-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Meath as gardai closed the road

A pedestrian in his 20s was seriously injured in a road accident in Meath yesterday.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the accident on the R147 Dublin Road, Navan, at the junction with Circular Road, shortly after 9.30pm.

The 20-year-old man was seriously injured in the incident after being hit by a car.

He is currently receiving medical treatment at Beaumont Hospital as his condition is considered serious.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the collision.

Gardai remained at the scene this morning and a technical investigation is currently underway.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to provide information about the incident.

Additionally, they are appealing to any road users in the area who may have camera footage, including a dashcam, to make it available to them.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí in Navan are appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision which occurred in Navan town on Saturday 28 October 2023.”

“Shortly after 9.30pm, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the R147 Dublin Road, Navan, at the junction with Circular Road.

“The pedestrian, a 20-year-old man, was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by ambulance.

“He is currently being treated at Beaumont Hospital where his condition is listed as serious.

“The driver of the car was uninjured.

“A full investigation of the scene is currently being carried out by Garda Forensic Collison Investigators and local diversions are currently in place.

Call for witnesses

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Anyone who has camera footage from Dublin Road/Circular Road in Navan at the time of the collision, including dashcam footage, is asked to make this available to gardaí inquiries.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Navan Garda Station on 046 9079930, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”

Separately, a woman in her 80s died and two others were seriously injured in a fatal traffic accident between a semi-trailer and two cars.

Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on the N22 in Crookstown, Cork, at around 9.30am on Friday.

The drivers of the cars, two women in their 80s and 50s, and a passenger in one of the cars, a man in his 50s, were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

One of the drivers, a woman in her 80s, has since died as a result of her injuries.

The local coroner has been notified and an autopsy will now be ordered.

A man and a woman who were in the second car remain in a serious but stable condition.
