NEW YORK (WABC) – Join us on Saturday, November 4th for a half-hour preview of the 2023 TCS NYC Marathon, “Countdown to the Starting Line,” hosted by Eyewitness News anchors Liz Cho and David Novarro.
Our special is an exclusive look at what you need to know before runners leave their mark in the TCS New York City Marathon.
The special will air late nights following Eyewitness News on Channel 7. Liz and David have pre-race highlights and a look ahead to the excitement leading up to this New York event where tens of thousands of runners from around the world converge on the Big Apple. It’s called “New York’s biggest block party.”
Liz and David are joined by Eyewitness News meteorologist Brittany Bell as they take a look at the iconic five-county golf course. Sports anchor Ryan Field has reports on which top runners to look out for, and sports anchor Sam Ryan will provide an update on the exciting wheelchair division this year.
The program features the grandchildren of two black men whose groundbreaking approach to running helped change marathon history forever. The men are part of a new exhibit at the New-York Historical Society called “Running for Civil Rights.”
Also highlighted is a refugee from Ukraine who is now a teacher on Staten Island. She runs the marathon and uses the lessons she learns from running to teach her children.
Viewers will hear from several ABC News anchors and reporters running the marathon as a relay race, including Deborah Roberts, Jonathan Karl and Linsey Davis. They’re raising money for Team For Kids, a New York Road Runners group that encourages kids to be active and start running.
New York Road Runners CEO Rob Simmelkjaer is interviewed about the historic changes to this year’s race medal.
Plus, learn why this year’s marathon will be the most technologically advanced race in the world and take a look at the amazing technology along the route.
